Our institute will use Union Depot’s conference and event spaces on the second floor. Please use the elevator to floor 2, and follow the signage throughout the venue.

Full-group sessions will be held in the Red Cap Room, our largest meeting space. These sessions will also be projected into an adjacent overflow room, providing an option for those who prefer additional space.

A nursing room is available on the main level and accessible with a key card for those who need it.

Union Depot offers multiple parking options. Find more information on their website. Institute attendees who are not staying overnight in the institute hotels will receive parking vouchers. All attendees are welcome to park in Union Depot’s parking areas. Overnight parking is also available if preferred over valet or street parking options.

Hotels
Our primary hotel, Hyatt Place St. Paul, is located across the street from Union Depot, where most attendees are staying.

SESSION DESCRIPTIONS

Keynote

Building Together: The Power of Uniting Systems for Sustainable Growth and Community Impact
Juliet Stipeche

In her keynote, Juliet Stipeche will explore the critical importance of uniting our systems to build a stronger, more resilient future and how effective communication, collaboration, and coordination between key stakeholders—across families, child care providers, and community organizations—are essential to driving sustainable growth and real, lasting community impact. Through compelling stories and real-world examples, she will show how a unified approach fosters accountability, strengthens trust, and leads to measurable progress in the lives of those we serve. By placing equity and inclusion at the heart of these efforts, Juliet will highlight how this shared vision not only strengthens the system today but also lays the groundwork for sustainable growth and long-term community impact.

Breakout Session #1

Balanced Growth: Nurturing Education, Self-Care, and Personal Development (Track 1)
Dr. Sheila Sweeney

This interactive workshop led by Dr. Sheila Sweeney, LICSW, focuses on maintaining a healthy work-life balance, promoting overall well-being, and fostering personal and professional growth. It encourages participants to succeed in their professional and personal lives while nurturing their mental well-being and stimulating growth. This includes navigating challenges, embracing change, maintaining strength while being vulnerable, and being open to different perspectives and pathways.

Working With Your Team's Conflict Styles (Track 2)
Peter Digitale Anderson

When tension, uncertainty, and conflict arise on our teams, it can be tough to support each other. Our instincts tell us to fight, escape, or shut down. How do we stay connected and work together? In this interactive workshop, we will introduce the concept of conflict styles and explore together how we can compassionately and productively welcome and work with everyone's style.

Safe Spaces vs. Brave Spaces: Understanding the Difference and How to Build Them (Track 2 and 3)
Nikki Graf and Dr. Nicole-Noelle Evans

This session will foster a discussion on the concepts of Brave Spaces and Safe Spaces, unpacking their differences. Together we will learn about how they show up in the workplace and the actions we can take to build environments for shared learning and vulnerability.

Making Space for Joy (Track 1)
Majorie Grevious

Becoming intentionally aligned towards joy is to make more intentional decisions around our physical body, how we feed our minds, what lights our spirit, and what energy surrounds us. Using simple breath techniques, chair yoga, and rest as a superpower, you will learn how to make more space for joy.

Breakout Session #2

Social Change Roles: Finding Your Place and Partners in Changing Systems (Track 3)
Peter Digitale Anderson

We all know that the “systems” around us—government institutions, the workplace, culture at large—are far from perfect. But what's our place in changing them? In this interactive workshop, we will explore the different roles necessary for systemic change, identify the roles each of us take on instinctively, and discuss ways to partner with others for change.

Leading Change (Tracks 2 and 3)
Julie Laven and Nate Caskey

Leading change can be frustrating and difficult. We're here to equip you with the tools to navigate resistance and overwhelm with success. Whether you're leading your team through a new policy change, a new organizational structure, or new DEI efforts, leveraging change management tactics sets you up to have engaged stakeholders, trained employees, clear communication, and ultimately realize results. If you’re a people leader, join us to learn how to successfully lead your teams through change.

Transforming Workplace Culture through Self-Care (Tracks 1 and 3)
Julia Berry

Transformation begins with transforming ourselves and wellness within is reflected in our surroundings. During our time together we will activate conversations and the power of relationships to explore our current well-being practices. We will establish clarity about practices necessary for normalizing a culture of growth and change.

Day 1 Closing Session

Turning 'Aha Moments' into Actionable Work-Life Wellness Practices
Dr. Sheila Sweeney

This session will close our day by focusing on transforming today's insights into practical strategies for improving work-life balance. Dr. Sheila Sweeney will guide participants in simplifying key takeaways and creating a personalized action plan, with at least one strategy ready to use within 24 hours. Through interactive reflection and group conversation, attendees will identify ways to reduce stress, rest more, or strengthen connections, using reflective tools for meaningful change. Take a moment to slow down, breathe, and selectively absorb what is useful while letting go of what isn’t.

Day 2 Opening Session

Stories from the Field: A Journey for Child Care Aware
Facilitated by Anthony Galloway

This panel discussion will focus on the stories and experiences of those who have been engaging in equity transformation in the CCAoMN network. Participants represent the state and the field and will discuss their experience defining visions for early childhood with a lens of antiracism and equity.

Breakout Session #3

Navigating Change (Tracks 1 and 2)
Julie Laven and Nate Caskey

Experiencing change can be difficult regardless of your level in an organization. This session equips you with the tools and mindset needed to adapt and thrive during times of change. You will learn to identify personal and team benefits, understand the strategic vision behind changes, and embrace growth opportunities. We will explore how to become effective change champions and fulfill your shared responsibility in fostering a culture of change readiness.

CliftonStrengths: Exploring Your Talents with Others (Tracks 1 and 2)
Andrea Freeberg

Everyone has unique talents and capabilities that contribute to their success. But these strengths aren't just beneficial for us—they’re also what those around us need! In this session, we’ll use the results of the CliftonStrengths assessment to explore how your top five talents intersect with others. You'll learn practical ways to collaborate and create synergy with those around you.

Note: Participants must have completed the CliftonStrengths assessment and know their Top 5 prior to this session.

Characteristics of White Supremacy Workshop (Track 3)
Nikki Graf in partnership with Access Ambassadors

Ask a fish, “how’s the water?” and it would respond with, “what water?” Understanding white supremacy culture is a similar experience for humans - we are surrounded in it without noticing. In this workshop we will unpack characteristics of white supremacy culture and how they directly impact all of us. Together we will draft examples of each characteristic and create a tool to interrupt them when they play out in our lives, work, and relationships. This is a continuation of the previous work in understanding white supremacy culture, but this workshop will scaffold any learner brand new or experienced in this topic!

Stillness and Somatic Practices: Ways to Build Awareness and Reduce Stress (Track 1)
Cristina Benz

In a world that asks us to go, go, go, how are you cultivating space for self-love through rest and what are ways that you take time to rest? This session will explore ways to experience self-care through gratitude practices, build more stillness and self-awareness in our daily life using meditation and yoga, and growing our body’s ability to respond rather than react through the understanding of somatics. It is suggested to wear something comfortable that you can move in for this session. All are welcome.
